Lighted Signs refer to any type of sign that involves some form of illumination. Most are used outside and the most common is the backlit or sign box style.
The advent of LED's has broadened the choice of lighted signs but the major types of lighted signs are:
The back lit sign comes in many shapes and sizes but most share a few common characteristics. An acrylic face covered with a printed graphic is placed on a metal box. Some form of lighting; either fluorescent or LED shines from behind the graphic so it can be seen at night.
Channel Letters are the signs you see made of individual illuminated letters. Today most of these signs are lighted with LEDs.
Halo signs are made from acrylic lettering that is raised from the back of the sign with LEDs attached to the rear. This results in an elegant sign for those looking for a slightly more upscale look.
Neon signs have been around for years. While not as common on the exterior of buildings as in previous eras there is still a strong demand for smaller window signs such as open/closed. The versatility of neon makes it popular for indoor uses such as the advertising of beer brands in bars and restaurants. More recently, LEDs have replaced neon for many types of signs.
